Project Description: The Project consisted of facade rehabilitation works of a heritage listed building including repair of render including structural works at 2 Watkin St, Newtown NSW.
Scope: The scope of works included repairing spalling concrete above the lintels of the doors and windows, removal of unsound render and repairing on the exterior of the building with heritage render mix, treating of the window frames by removing the corrosion and applying corrosion treatment, replacement of broken window panes with like-for-like replacement, and painting the entire building.
While carrying out the repair of render it was noticed that the building had substantial cracking in the brick work and the scope expanded to carry out additional structural works including repointing crack and inserting render mesh along full length of the building, extending 4 courses above and below the timber floor, mechanically pin mesh to brickwork, installation of 6mm helifix corner crack stitching and installation of vertical and horizontal steel bracing to internal brickwork to make It compliant with BCA.
